PHS Band Student Places Honorable Mention at GSU Concerto Competition
Parkview band student, Jarrett Craven, recently placed honorable mention at
the Georgia State High School Concerto Competition recently held at Georgia
Jarrett was required to prepare a selection from standard Bassoon
repertoire (Mozart's Bassoon Concerto). He submitted a video recording of
his audition and was evaluated by the faculty at GSU.
In addition to placing honorable mention and receiving honorable mention,
he will be recognized at the March 6th GSU Bands concert along with
receiving a $100 cash price. We congratulate Jarrett for his outstanding

Winston Borge Memorial Scholarship
Winston Borge was a former Parkview High School Band Student who was involved in a tragic accident in 2008. Winston was someone who could always make people smile. Winston aspired to be a Band Director one day and took great pride in being part of the Parkview Panther Marching Band.
To honor Winston Borge, the Parkview Band Booster Association created the Winston Borge Memorial Scholarship to be presented to a graduating Senior. CLICK HERE for the application and instructions to apply for the scholarship. The scholarship will be awarded at the PHS Band Banquet in May.
Application deadline is April 22, 2014.

Atlanta Youth Wind Symphony (AYWS) & Emory Youth Symphony Orchestra (EYSO):
Atlanta Youth Wind Symphony at Emory University represents the most
advanced honor wind ensemble available to students. AYWS has the toughest
audition process and is the most selective wind band in the state of
Georgia. Nicholas and Emily also successfully auditioned into the Emory
Youth Symphony Orchestra. The Emory Youth Symphony Orchestra program
provides training and an orchestral environment of the highest caliber,
nurturing individual musicianship and ensemble performance. EYSO will be
performing at Lincoln Center in New York in early May. We are very proud
of Emily and Nicholas for their hard work and dedication to music! For more

Metropolitan Atlanta Youth Wind Ensemble (MAYWE):
MAYWE, sponsored by Georgia State University is an extracurricular ensemble
based in Atlanta, GA that features the Atlanta's best developing musicians.
These students completed a rigorous audition process and interview to be
placed in the group. We are very proud of the hard work and dedication
these students showed preparing for this audition. For more information

Conn-Selmer Youth Bands of Atlanta:
The newest Atlanta honor ensemble, Youth Bands of Atlanta (YBA) is an
extension of the American Youth Ensembles chaired by Conn-Selmer President,
Dr. Tim Lautzenheiser. Instrumentalists are accepted on recommendation of
their band director and have an opportunity to perform multiple concerts

Parkview Bands is proud to announce our recent district and state honors!
Historically, Parkview Band has always had a strong presence at the state
level and this year is no exception. As a result of this round of all-state
auditions, 17 of our students auditioned into the District 13 Honor Band
and 5 of our students auditioned into the Georgia All-State Band. The
district level students will perform a concert on Feburary 8th at Smokerise
Baptist Church and the All-State students will be in concert on March 1st
in Athens, GA.

Approximate cost: $865.00
Cost covers: buses to and from New York and in New York, lodging, musical events (New York Philharmonic, Master
class, Broadway Musical), tours of the city, some meals, t-shirt.
Cost does not cover some meals, souvenirs.
The final cost of the spring trip will be $865. This price will stay the same unless multiple students drop out of the trip. If this is the case, the price will rise slightly, around $2-3 per student dropped.

"The Parkview High School Band won wsbtv.com's 2011 "Best High School Band" Tournament last football season. The prize for winning was a chance to play on the field at Turner Field before a Major League Baseball game."
