Welcome to new Asst. Band Director, Jason Atha and Student Teacher, Jesse Carlson


Jason Atha is the new Assistant Director of Bands at Parkview High School. Mr. Atha attended The University of Georgia and graduated with a Bachelor's of Music in Music Education from the Hugh Hodgson School of Music and an Interdisciplinary Certificate in Music Business from the Terry College of Business. Previously, Mr. Atha was the Assistant Festival Director for the UGA Band Program. In this position, he oversaw Janfest and Midfest, two of the largest band music festivals of their kind in the nation. Under his direction, enrollment increased to 2000 students and over 260 schools across the state of Georgia. In addition, Mr. Atha served as the Visual Director for the North Oconee High School Titian Regiment Marching Band and he served on the executive board with Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia. In 2006, Mr. Atha helped to develop the Athens-Area Band Showcase, a pre-festival concert series offered to local middle and high school bands. He later became the director of the AABS and saw festival attendance grow by over 50%.

In 2008, Mr. Atha interned with renowned video game composer Chris Rickwood and studied composition using software such as Logic, Protools, Sonar, Audiosuite and the Unreal Game Development Engine. Mr. Atha student taught at Jefferson High School with Kris Plummer and West Jackson Middle School with William Kilgore. In 2006, Mr. Atha performed in six cities across China with the UGA Redcoat Band and was principal clarinetist in the UGA Wind Symphony from 2008-2009.

Professional affiliations include The National Band Association (NBA), Delta Epsilon Iota Honor Society, Music Educators National Conference (MENC), Professional Association of Georgia Educators (PAGE) and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.


Jesse Carlson, new Student Teacher in his own words:
"I am a native of Lilburn, I went to Arcado then R.D. Head Elementary, Five Forks Middle, and then that other school in the county (as Richard puts it). I graduated high school in '04 and went to the University of Tennessee. I graduated there in May of '09 with a degree in bassoon performance. In the Fall of '09 I entered Kennesaw State University to complete my degree in music education."

Jesse will be with us until December.
